For 12 minutes I sat on stage spraying myself in the head – a feminist dedication to living in the USA.

Reflecting on my age, I threw 5 gallons of rose petals from the 3rd floor SLC library balcony.



INTROJECTION

Wearing a canvas suit, I read random notes from my journal, then dunked my head in a bucket of red paint and painted on a piece of canvas taped to the wall.

While sitting next to each other, Sasha Thompson grafted my and Eugene Tachinni’s hair together.

Sitting in the library elevator for 2 hours, I wore a straightjacket while reading Philip K. Dick’s Clans of the Alphane Moons.



MY STUPID PRESIDENT

I dribbled a basketball, ate spaghetti with my hands, and dished out insults to the audience until they retaliated by throwing ping pong balls at me.



INVISIBLE WOMAN
Whole Foods, Sugar House, UT
Considering my existence as an invisible middle-aged woman, I bought flowers at the market and plucked and stuffed the petals in my pockets.


BLENDER PIECE
Salt Lake City, UT – Downtown Artist Collective
Holding an open blender and my head wrapped in tracing paper with a baby doll within the wrapping, I spun like a whirling dervish, allowing blended beets to spill out of the blender.


CRUMPLED

For 30 minutes I crumpled four long rolls of brown paper, and then wrapped them into cocoons and left them on display in the library for the 2-day duration of the festival.


TRICKSTER

Mouth and head wrapped in gauze and dragging two Diagnostic and Statistical Manuals for Mental Disorders, I roamed the library only making eye contact with the mentally ill.


EXPEL
Utah Museum of Fine Art Faculty Exhibition
Blindfolded with gauze, I un-taped a line of black tape to the far end of the gallery and then blew up a black balloon until it popped.

MENTAL CONSTRUCTION
Mobius, Boston, MA
For a performance at Mobius, I gave out Band-aids to my audience members, asking them to place the Band-aids on themselves where they hurt. I then wrapped my head in gauze, fake flowers, and ice cube trays as a way of pointing to mental pain.

POST-TRAUMATIC CLUMSY CAKES
Waterloo Center for the Arts
I made a ketchup target on the wall and then threw 5 dozen raw eggs at the target. I wore a specially constructed hat for Clumsy Cakes.


CLUMSY CAKES 4 PRESIDENT

In the Great Hall at UMFA, I had paintings I painted of my persona, Clumsy Cakes, on the wall. I performed as Clumsy Cakes, talking to people about why I would make a good president. I served cake.


DUNCE
Miedzynarodowy Festiwal, Warsaw, Poland
I told stories about my Grandmother while wearing a dunce cap and ironing my clothes. After I had put on my ironed clothes, I sat at a chair and painted the dunce cap while it was on my head to look like a stagnant American flag.


FEARS
Infráction Performance Art Festival, Sète, France
With a sign in French reading, “What do you Fear?”, I asked people to write on tape what they feared and stick it to my body.

With the help of the video camera operator, Laina Thomas, I gave myself a face lift.

With my nose to the wall, I listened to NPR and responded to what I was hearing by drawing.
